摘要

Dynamic compressive strength of mortar specimen is studied in a series of SHPB tests in order to examine the effect of lateral confinement on the Dynamic Increasing Factor (DIF) of concrete-like materials. Solid and tubular specimens with different inner and outer diameters are used in SHPB tests. The relationship between DIF and strain rate for a range of specimen geometries is presented based on experimental results. It has been shown that the strain acceleration increases with the increase of the average strain rate in a SHPB test. When strain rate is beyond a critical value, the accelerated axial compression leads to significant radial inertia effect, which may be mistakenly interpreted as strain rate effect on the DIF of concrete-like materials.
