This paper describes the application of the ASCAP simulation-based toolset to the risk assessment of the existing New York City Transit (NYCT) Canarsie Line subway system, in support of the deployment of new Communication-Based Train Control (CBTC) equipment. The risk assessment and system acceptance are performed per the US Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) Rule 49 CFR Part 209/234/235 (Standards for the Use of Processor-Based Signal and Train Control Systems), which requires a demonstration that the risk of the new system is equal to or less than the risk of the existing system.
