In today's current environment, Probabilistic Safety Assessments (PSAs) must perform at arnlevel that can withstand a higher degree of rigour and compliance to industry standards. NuclearrnPower Plants (NPPs) are faced with some difficult decisions because of the new demands for the usernof PSAs such as regulatory expectations for licensing submittals or management of equipment out ofrnservice assessments. For a NPP that has a fully developed PSA substantiating the validity andrnapplicability of their model can be a daunting task. The fact that information within the PSA and therninformation to develop the PSA are not always on a one to one ratio results in a complexity that can berndifficult to manage and still maintain validity. The question then is what processes and/or tools willrnNPPs need to control and maintain the documentation in their PSA?rnToday NPPs apply significant resources into assessing the effects changes in a document may have onrnthe PSA. Depending on the level of sophistication of a NPP's model control process the level of effortrncan swing the gamut but in all cases documentation of the change and the identification of supportingrndocumentation is required. To minimize the impact to resources these activities require efficientrnmethods for updating the PSA documentation. When PSA documentation is managed in a relationalrndatabase which in turn is linked to the relational database of the PSA model, the work of updatingrnPSA documentation can be simplified. With a list of the changes made in the plant it would be easy tornquery the PSA model database and the PSA documentation database for the modelling assumptionsrnthat may be affected and requires revision.rnPalo Verde Nuclear Generating Station (PVNGS) in conjunction with Relcon Scandpower AB isrninvestigating the possibilities of establishing a process for tracking PSA documentation to the parts ofrna PSA model that may be affected by changed plant documents and changed PSA model.
