This paper will present today's and tomorrow's way of formulating within the metal powder industry. Key factors such as labor, traceability, flexibility and costs will be evaluated throughout the different solutions. The trend of reductions to batch sizes to help cope with more specific demand from clients is accompanied by cumbersome requirements such as: 1. numerous weighings that require more stringent accuracies 2. multiplication of the make and break connections 3. Cross contaminations that need to be avoided 4. Versatile equipment that needs to be able to handle all kind of powders.
