The rapidly increasing demand of bandwidth for applications like internet, video on demand etc. does not only require an improved subscriber line network (e.g. XDSL technologies), but also requires high speed I/O technologies for the server, which stocks data. The urgent need for more bandwidth between systems and among subsystems is driving new I/O technologies to the market. The most popular are PCI-X, Rapid I/O, Firewire, USB2.0 , Fibre Channel, InfiniBand etc. New high speed graded-index perfluorinated plastic optical fibre (PF-GIPOF) holds great promise in this field of high speed interconnection. We have developed a PF-GIPOF with dimension and bandwidth adapted to dense intrasystem or intersystem interconnection.
