Ozone generation in a negative corona discharge between two coaxial cylindrical electrodes has been experimentally studied using mixtures of N_2O + O_2 and N_2O + air flowing at a constant velocity of 1 cm.s~(-1) and at an ambient temperature. The rate of the ozone generation and the saturated ozone concentration were reduced with increasing content of nitrous oxide both in oxygen and air mixtures. These decays were accompanied by a considerable decrease in the mean discharge current at constant voltage applied on the electrodes. Analysis of these experimental results shows that the observed inhibition effect of added nitrous oxide can be explained by reactions of O(~1D) atoms with N_2O molecules. Dissociative electron attachment to N_2O must be also taken into account.
