With the rapid growth of the Internet and the emergence of e-Commerce, the increasing demand for systems integration and interoperability intensifies the role of distributed object computing technologies. It has been a challenge to integrate and interoperate with the systems running on a variety of hardware and software platforms, as well as diverse operating environments. In this paper we discuss the recent trends in distributed object computing technologies with an emphasis on interoperability of the Web-based systems. We examine the technologies of CORBA, Java RMI, and RMI-IIOP, and analyze how theses models can achieve interoperability among distributed computing objects. We also explore the possibility of integrating these technologies with XML to standardize data inter-changes among multiple data sources on the Web.
