Direct measurements of the atmospheric deposition of trace elements require analysis of precipitation collected in bulk deposition samplers. This form of sampling is normally restricted to a limited number of sites, which strongly limits the spatial resolution of the data. Moreover the concentrations to be determined are often very low, and contamination problems are frequently encountered.
