摘要

Neutron activation analysis (NAA) makes an important contribution to the certification of Standard Reference Materials (SRMs) at the U. S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). The concentration of an element certified in a NIST SRM is usually determined by at least two independent analytical methods with no significant sources of error in common. The use of NAA as one method essentially eliminates the possibility that the two methods used have the same important error source since NAA is based on the nuclear, not the chemical properties of the elements. The sensitivity, multielemental capability, essentially blank-free nature, and inherent accuracy of NAA make it extremely valuable for SRM certification.
