A REVIEW ON THE QUALITY OF TRACE ELEMENT VALUES IN BLOOD, SERUM AND URINE OF THE DUTCH POPULATION

It is well known that published values of trace elements in human tissue often show large discrepancies, due to not harmonized protocols for sampling, sample handling and methods of analysis. A common factor is the risk of contamination. In the past decades much expertise has been developed and published on approaches for quality control and quality assurance when studying trace elements in human tissue. Now that these modern concepts are available they may be used as a mirror to assess the quality and usability of the values, determined in the past.
