The deep-drawing of non-cylindrical parts is a special challenge. Beside of wrinkling in the flange area and tearing in the botom of the part, wrinkling in the conical walls of the parts may appear. In order to prevent tearing, there are more deep-drawing steps necessary, the part geometrie will be achieved through a final calibration process. Another manufacturing procedure is hydro forming or the parts are formed within two process steps, a deep-drawing followed bay a extrusion process. The costs of these procedures are very high and are influenced by the investment costs, the number of process stages and the long process times. However, the following paper presents a procedure for the deep-drawing of a non-cylindrical part with a compound tooling. The procedure has a very good potential for the middle and high volume part production.
