Research and Development in Sheet Metal Forming at the Institute for Metal Forming Technology (IFU) of the University of Stuttgart

Every two years, at the International Conference 'New Developments in Sheet Metal Forming', the actual developments in the field of sheet metal forming at the Institute for Metal Forming Technology of the University of Stuttgart are presented. Looking at the former conference proceedings, it can be see that many development projects range over several years. This long-ranging research and development work is a significant advantage of the university investigations. It enables the possibility to establish centres of competence, which are focused on special fields within the forming technology. This trend, seen with regard to staff and investment, is necessary, because it is not affordable for an institute to cover the complete field of forming technology. However, it seems to make sense to cover the single fields of development with competence centres and to include these centres in development networks. The following paper will show interesting respectively important development projects, which will also be of interest for further investigations at the IFU.
