This paper reports on the experiences in designing, constructing and operating an Internet-based world-wide web server for tourist information. The Tourist Board's marketing approach before the development of the Web system is described together with their aims and objectives in pursuiing this marketing medium. The type of information included in the system is justified and results are included to indicate the most popular information, the origin of users and the hourly load on the server. An analysis of visitors' book comments is given and the paper concludes that the Internet is a viable technology through which to promote tourism as long as it is properly resourced by the information provider.
