METABOLIC CHANGES INDUCED BY LOW LEVEL LASER STIMULATION IN RELATION WITH APPLIED WAVELENGTH

Blast injuries induced some metabolic changes as increase lipid peroxidation products, decrease activity of antioxidative defense enzymes and lower levels of glucose and pyruvate contents with increase of lactate piruvate ratio which is parameter of metabolic functionality. Previous studies show that low level laser (LLL) irradiation can modulate biochemical processes. We undertook our study to investigate whether transcranial application of LLL beams could modify metabolic changes induced by moderate pulmonary blast injury (PBI) in relation with applied wavelength of LLL. A total of 42 adult rabbits were used in this study, randomly assigned in 6 groups: 1. Control animals; 2. Intact animals treated with LLL-L1type / wavelength of 660nm, kHz, at dose 1,5 J/cm2/; 3. Intact animals treated with LLL-L2 type /wavelength of 904nm, at same dose at frequencies as L1/; 4. PBI animals LD50; 5. PBI animals were consequent treated with LLL-L1 type stimulation; 6. PBI animals were consequent treated with LLL-L2 type stimulation. The early postraumatic period was observed. Laser irradiation of both types could induce metabolic alteration in intact animals as increase of lipid peroxidation products. L1 type could increase of lactate piruvate levels. In blast injured animals laser irradiation were induced different effects in relation with applied wavelength as L1 were prevent decreased activity of the antioxidative enzymes and L2 type could prevent increase of lactate piruvate ratio.
