Web-based Dynamic Agents for Health Informatics (WDAHI)

Software agents emerged in the early nineties as a useful tool to enhance the quality and efficiency of software performance. In recent years the world-wide-web has witnessed a rapid development with its usage spreading to E-Commerce and different areas of enterprise systems. This paper considers the case of advanced web-based health information systems. A Java-based dynamic agent infrastructure is proposed for health informatics, and is patterned partially on the general structure of the GEHR Object Model Architecture. This structural set-up of the archetype is constructed as a Web object, and it can switch and exchange domain-specific XML interpreters. Dynamic agents are constructed to have variable functionalities at different times and be mobile on the web. Masked patient records of a large hospital are used for developing an initial prototype for a web-based dynamic agents system. The prototype is a thyroid disease database system, being the first of a series of disease databases on the web. These disease databases, designed in col laboration with medical specialists of the hospital, are to assist health specialists to monitor the progress of the medical condition of their patients.
