The ERX Data Management System

摘要

The development of the ERX (Entity-Relationship for XML) System is the main goal of the XML-2000 project carried on at the University of Bergamo. This project addresses the design and development of an XML Data Management System with the following characteristics: first, it provides a data model which takes into account peculiarities of data in XML documents, putting in evidence correlations between concepts regardless, as far as possible, of XML syntactic constraints; second, it is implemented on top of a reliable and stable Relational DBMS in order to ensure its adoption inside long lasting information system. So far, we have defined the ERX Data Model, a significant extension of the classical Entity-Relationship model and we implemented most of the ERX System functionality, tested by means of a practical case study. The architecture of the ERX System is described in the paper.
