The Integrated Services (IntServ) architecture with a resource reservation protocol such as RSVP (resource reservation protocol) is able to provide end-to-end quality of service (QoS) to real-time applications. However, it seems that this end-to-end model alone will not scale well for large network topologies. To overcome this scalability problem, the Differentiated Services (DiffServ) architecture has been created, which is based on the control of aggregated traffic. DiffServ, however, does not guarantee end-to-end QoS for real-time applications. Recently, lots of attention is being paid to the integration of RSVP/IntServ and DiffServ because it can provide both end-to-end QoS and scalability. This paper presents a testbed for the integration of RSVP/IntServ and DiffServ to provide scalability and the desired QoS for real-time applications such as voice over IP. We also present some experimental results.
