WBSGA: A Web-Based Course Scheduling Tool

摘要

This paper describes a new web-based course scheduling tool (WBSGA). WBSGA uses genetic algorithms to automatically produce standard course, room, and instructor timetables. The model for the WBSGA tool and its web-interface are presented in this paper. Several test cases are presented as well. The WBSGA tool has completed the scheduling of about 50 sections in about 12 seconds, 250 sections in about 230 seconds, and 500 sections in about 2100 seconds. The system takes into consideration the instructors preferences in terms of courses and locations, the rooms' availability, and the list of offered courses and their sections. Presently, the system satisfies the scheduling needs of the College of Information Technology (CIT) of the United Arab Emirates University.
