We introduce a development of an e-Learning platform based on e-book reader systems, called ThruBook. ThruBook supports annotations and synchronized group navigations over e-books. Many types of annotations are supported, including highliting, bookmarking with memos, adding handwriting data on a specific location. Annotation data is stored separately from e-book contents, possibly shared between readers. Annotations could serve as a supplementary study materials, or a tool for discussion / collaboration over e-books. Also, ThruBook provides a synchronized lecture mode where a group of readers can share navigation and display. A chatting over the context, connected to a text location, is also provided. This system is implemented on the Java reader system to demonstrate a model of an e-Learning platform for lectures over e-Books.
