FEATURES AND ADVANCEMENT OF THE SHINKANSEN ROLLING STOCK IN THE FIELD OF HIGH SPEED RAILWAY

Japanese Shinkansen has the world longest experience of the high-speed railway systems. The Shinkansen has tried to improve proper railway technologies to provide shorter traveling time and comfortable journey, and also has tries to apply modified industrial technologies to adapt broader meaning of "environment," such as social environment and natural environment. As a result of this continuous improvement, the advanced Shinkansen exists. Therefore, it is claimed that the Shinkansen is always innovated and advanced railway system, now and forever. In considering global environment, it is easy to understand that the most efficient transportation system should be chosen. Currently, the Shinkansen began a new approach for further step, and good performance will be expected. This paper describes the features of the innovative Shinkansen train, Series 700, and explains the meaning of the Shinkansen.
