Strategies to Reduce Delivery Times of Mass Customized Products

In this paper different strategies how to reduce delivery time of mass customized products are discussed. These strategies include the traditional build-to-order and build-to replenish approaches. Furthermore, it will be considered if a balanced or unbalanced capacity strategy should be chosen. Further decision variables are lot sizes and Kanban safety stock levels. A simulation study shows that mixed strategies are often superior to pure strategies if a given delivery time and service level should be achieved at minimum costs.
