Due to the universal use of the multimedia and Internet applications, more and more data are in image media rather than as traditional texts. During the process of delivery, hackers can easily and undetectably intercept and tamper with these digital images. Recently, many researches have been done to develop techniques to detect and restore tampered image. However, most of these proposed techniques are limited to uncompressed or losslessly compressed images. But most transmitted images are lossy compressions. In this paper, we propose a new method based on vector quantization (VQ) lossy image compression. This method can be used to protect VQ compressed images, detect any tamper attempts and resjpre tampered areas.
