APPROACH TO COMMUNICATION ORIENTED CONFIGURATION OF PRODUCTION SYSTEMS

Efficient factories have to respond to numerous challenges, such as speed, mass customization and globalization. Due to the lack of certainty of prognosis for production programs, production systems have to be set up versatile. The design of production systems therefore requires increased orientation of the structuring process towards communication. Classical approaches for optimization of manufacturing structures are based on material flow optimization, reaching their limits neglecting communication. The paper outlines results of research work on communication parameters for the configuration of production systems. In a first step, forms of communication in industrial contexts will be presented. In the second step, a model of communication oriented structuring and optimization for production systems will be developed. Applications for communication oriented layout design are demonstrated.
