摘要

In this paper we present a case study of a hybrid image compression algorithm combining the widely-familiar JPEG algorithm with a novel searchless fractal image compression algorithm. The fractal algorithm is based on a quadtree partitioning of the images to be compressed and is capable of much deeper quadtrees than traditional algorithms, extending to single-pixel blocks. The hybrid algorithm is capable of providing superior performance in terms of compression rate and reconstructed image quality compared to either fractal or JPEG methods alone.
