TRAPEZOIDAL APPROXIMATION OF A FUZZY NUMBER - A PRACTICAL APPROACH

The problem of the trapezoidal approximation of fuzzy numbers is discussed. A new nearest trapezoidal approximation operator preserving expected interval, is suggested. This operator posesses many desired properties: it is simple and natural, it is continuous and invariant to translations and scale transformations. Moreover, it preserves ordering, correlation and information amount.
