Positron Emission Particle Tracking (PEPT) has been used for the first time to monitor the motion of polyethylene particles in a scaled polymer reactor of diameter 0.15 m, at pressures up to 17.5 bars and temperatures up to 100℃. The circulation frequency increases strongly with increase in pressure, linked to a change in bubbling behaviour. The sintering kinetics have been investigated, enabling a safe operating window to be determined.
