In this paper we describe PAFS, a new paralle/distributed file system, Within the whole file system, special interest is placed on the caching mechanism. We present a cooperative cache that has the advantages of cooperation and avoids the problems derived from the coherence mechanisms. Furthermore, this has been achieved with a reasonable gain in performance. In order to show the obtained performance, we present a comparison between PAFS and xFS (a file system that also implements a cooperative cache).
