Among Low Power Entertainment Robot applications, conventional dc motors are very popular because they are reasonably cheap and easy to control. The main disadvantage is the mechanical parts, which have only a limited life period. In addition, brush sparking can destroy the rotor coil, generate EMC problems and reduce the insulation resistance to an unacceptable limit. Recently, it is that a practical use of small motors is increasing in industrialization tendency of FA (Factory Automation), OA (Office Automation) and Computer Peripheral Device, Entertainment Robot applications, etc. Among these, Brushless DC Motors (BLDCM) are replacing classical DC brush type motors, because of the advantages of BLDCM, such as easy of speed and torque control, low noise and long life. This paper presents the design of a small Brushless DC Motor with integrated Drive Circuit. The BLDC motor drive system for this paper use integrated circuits with a COB (Chip On Board) method. Test results confirmed the feasibility of the proposed motor and drive system design.
