THE ATMOSPHERIC POLLUTION STATUS QUO AND COUNTERMEASURES FOR ELECTRIC POWER INDUSTRY IN CHINA

Since reform and opening in China, especially since 1988, the electric power industry has developed speedily, with annual newly-increased capacity of generator set to be more than 10GW. In 1995, the electricity generated whole country was 1000 TWh, and the installed capacity came already to be 210GW. The new pattern of electric source structure of coal-fired electric power being principal, multiple energy sources being complementary has been taken shape preliminarily. Up to the end of 1995, the installed capacity shares of thermal, hydro and nuclear power were respectively 74%,25% and 1%. To generate power by new energy sources such as wind energy, solar energy, geothermal energy and Ocean-based energy etc. has developed enormously.
