In utility grid with different distributed power generation systems, unintentional islanding is a serious concern for the safety of personnel and various electrical and electronic equipment which are connected to the utility grid and it is necessary to detect islanding and isolate the equipment from the utility grid as soon as possible when there is power outage in the utility grid. In this paper, islanding is detected in 3-phase utility interactive solar powered distributed generator. Different passive islanding detection techniques have been verified with simulation results carried out with PSIM simulation software. Islanding detection operation has been verified with resistive, capacitive and inductive loads. Control of three-phase inverter synchronized with utility grid is also implemented.
