Thermal Properties of Delinted Cotton Seeds

Studies were conducted to determine the thermal properties, namely, specific heat, thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity of delinted cotton seeds of AKA-5 variety by the method of mixtures, line source of transient heat flow method and the indirect method, respectively. These properties were evaluated as a function of moisture content at five levels in the range of S.63 to 33.08% db. The results showed that the specific heat increased from 1.6830 to 3.6764 kJ/kg K whereas, thermal conductivity increased from 0.2428 to 0.7564 W/m K. Similarly, the thermal diffusivity varied from 1.98 x 10~(-7) to 3.65 x 10~(-7) m~2/s as the moisture content increased from 5.63 to 33.08% db. The equations were developed for predicting these thermal properties with respect to the moisture content.
