No. 2 Tower in Shimao Rivera Garden is the highest residential building in Shanghai at present. The height of the tower is 160.8m, the length is 106 m, the maximum width is 34m and the minimum width is 21.6 m. The superstructure for the building is framed entirely in cast-in-place reinforced concrete. RC shear wall with multi-tubes structure system is adopted and capable of resisting all imposed wind and seismic lateral loads. The height was beyond the limitation for RC shear-wall structure in contemporary design document, and the length was also beyond the limitation of the specification. On the other hand, the elevation of No. 2 Tower was also irregular. Specific research and analysis were carried out, and several structural problems were taken into account. A micro-concrete structural model with scale of 1:25 was constructed, to validate the calculation results and to find out possible weak portions, moreover to ensure the reliability and safety of the structural design. With the results of the tests, the structure was designed to satisfy the seismic fortification criterions of contemporary Technical Specification.
