On the base of summarizing the theories of strength evaluation of reservoir induced seismicity (RIS) and analyzing the main influence factors upon reservoir induced seismicity (RIS), geodynamical method is applied to calculate the strain energy and released seismic energy in Danjiangkou Reservoir area in the initial project and to deduce the conversion coefficient of energy, which is used to evaluate possibility of inducing seismicity and its magnitude after the water level of Danjiangkou reservoir rises. The result is that likelihood of inducing seismicity is high and the hypocenters are potentially located in the places of Danjiang reservoir which is of gorge shape and where carbonate rocks march with other rocks, and that the magnitude is no more than 4.5 on the Richter scale in its subsequent project.
