The results of two-way cyclic interface tests are presented. The interface is between dry loose sand and a steel plate. A simple shear type interface apparatus is used. Three sets of tests are conducted. They correspond to a maximum horizontal movement of 1.0 mm, 2.0 mm and 3.0 mm, respectively. Each test is conducted for 10 cycles under a constant normal stress. After the last cycle, samples are sheared to failure. During the tests, shear stress, normal displacement and tangential displacement of the steel plate are recorded. In addition, pictures of the stack of plates are taken. These pictures are analyzed to determine the horizontal displacement of each plate of the soil container and the slip at the contact surface.
