A new type of hermetically-sealed rotating cylinder compressor is developed to overcome the rolling piston compressor's weaknesses such as severe friction waste, leaking loss, mechanical vibration and short lifespan. The compressor adopts unique friction-reducing techniques and sealing structures, featuring in that the cylinder and the rotor rotate respectively around their own stationary centerline and that the cylinder, the blade and the end-plates all are closely fitted. Due to that the relative glide speeds between the cylinder, the rotor, the blade and the end-plates are insignificant, which results in least possible friction loss and easily-wearing part. The fit clearances between the cylinder and the blade and the end-plates have disappeared, so the friction and leakage occurred from these elements are completely eliminated. In addition, the mechanical vibration had been minimized due to the minimized eccentric mass of the revolving parts. This paper introduces the compressor's working principles, structure characteristics, deduces the calculation formulas for kinematic parameters, and discusses what impacts these parameters have on friction and wearing. The results show that the rotating cylinder compressor, in comparison with the conventional rolling piston compressor, has displayed some unique advantages in friction reduction, seal property, anti-vibration, manufacturing and assembling techniques.
