Recently, absorption refrigerators have attracted much attention since they do not use freon as refrigerant medium and can be driven by waste heat. They can be used as a component of the co-generation systems for refrigeration and heating and can be driven by exhaustion of gas engine to save electricity. But the coefficient of performance is quite lower than compression type refrigerator. It is important to investigate the performance characteristics of the absorption refrigerator and to get the way to improve them further. The exergy analysis is powerful to the calculation and analysis of the change in energy quality. In this paper an absorption refrigerator driven by exhaust gas of a micro-gas turbine was investigated to make the performance characteristics clear. As a result, it was shown that the COPs of single and double effect cycles were about 81.1% and 144.5%, respectively, and the refrigerating capacity of compound cycle was greater by 56% than the single effect type and by 29.7% than the double effect type.
