摘要

We propose a new hardware architecture to let transport-oriented Internet traffic bypass the Web server. This architecture balances the control function of a general-purpose computer with the optimized transport provided by an embedded system pipeline from the storage system to the network. It separates control path from data path for more efficient data transport. Therefore, the architecture not only maintains the advantages of traditional servers where control and data processing are done flexibly, but also provides optimized data I/O processing. More importantly it keeps majority of processing-oriented software and algorithms on a general-purpose server. Preliminary analysis is presented to demonstrate the features and performance of the architecture.
