Efficient reduction of SO_2 emission with CO over Sn-Zr catalysts

SO_2 is the one of various pollutants, which were produced in combustion process. SO_2 can be remove by DSRP(direct sulfur recovery process) which can convert SO_2 to elemental sulfur by reduction using reducing agent over catalyst. In this work, SO_2 reduction using CO to elemental sulfur was performed over Sn-Zr catalysts. Sn-Zr catalysts with various Sn/Zr molar ratios were prepared by co-precipitation method. We investigated how experimental conditions such as Sn/Zr molar ratios, space velocity (GHSV), reaction temperature and CO/SO_2 molar ratio have an effect on the reactivity of SO_2 reduction. The best catalyst was Sn_2Zr_1 catalyst among Sn-Zr catalysts. As results, sulfur yield was about 98% and SO_2 conversion was about 100% at 623 K and 10000 cm~3/g_(-cat). · h.
