Effects of the electric field on the rheology, electrorheological (ER) effects, and electrical properties in a suspension composed of barium titanate and silicone oil are investigated. From the ER measurements, it is newly found that with increase in the frequency of the electric field the ER effect decreases at lower electric fields while it increases at higher electric fields. On the other hand, the electrical measurements show that a change from a nonlinear to a linear conduction occurs with increasing the frequency of the electric field. On the basis of these results, the ER mechanism in the barium titanate suspension is discussed.
