INNOVATIVE SHORELINE PROTECTION SCHEME FOR THE CITY OF MARATAIZES, ESPIRITO SANTO, BRAZIL

摘要

A new shoreline protection scheme is developed for the city of Marataizes in SE Brazil. The scheme was designed on the basis of requirements with regard to protection of coastal infrastructure, safety for swimmers and aesthetics. The scheme is based on beach nourishment combined with streamlined artificial headlands that do not create undesired rip currents. The scheme was evaluated and optimized using advanced mathematical models.
