A structure placed in a wave or a steady current leads to flow effects which increase the near bed shear stress in the vicinity of that structure. In case of a movable bed, sediment transport will take place and a scour develops. A numerical model is presented that calculates flow, sediment transport and bottom movements in order to predict the scour depth. In case of an existing scour protection, the area can be determined which is affected by the increased shear stresses.
