A terminal groin located at Oregon Inlet North Carolina has been in place for over 10 years. Detailed shoreline monitoring based upon digital aerial photography has mapped the change in the first 12 km of shoreline to the south of the groin. The analysis of the shoreline change suggests that after a distance of approximately 4 km the shoreline change has not been influenced by the presence of the groin. This conclusion is based upon a comparison of the pre- and post-groin shoreline change histories using a linear regression to determine the trend and a 95 percent prediction interval.
