Effect of three factors (i.e. gas velocity, with or without simulated slags on the distributor and solid recycle rate) on hydrodynamics of CFB is studied by pressure fluctuation measurements in a cold CFB riser. The measured time series of pressure fluctuation were analyzed using techniques from deterministic chaos theory and techniques from FFT. Results show that chaotic time series analysis of pressure fluctuations can be used to detect transitions in flow regimes as gas velocity is increased for a given solid. The results also show that effect of the three factors on hydrodynamics is different.
