STUDY ON THERMAL PERFORMANCE OF CURTAIN WALLS USING INFRARED THERMOGRAPHY

The interior surface temperatures on a curtain wall specimen were measured by using the infrared (IR) thermography technique with an external reference emitter. The test specimen is mounted in an Environmental Chamber and the IR measurements were carried out under CSA winter conditions, that is 21℃ for the warm side and -18℃ for the cold side. The infrared study is one part of a broader experimental study on the overall thermal performance of metal curtain walls. The full size test specimen (3.8m by 6.7m) includes two different aluminum/glass curtain wall systems, one is a standard system and the other has thermally improved configuration. This paper presents the experimental setup of the infrared study. The preliminary test results demonstrate the thermal performance of the improved system relative to the conventional system.
