Computational fluid dynamics is now generally recognized as a scientific discipline in its own right and embraces the numerical simulation of a broad area of flow problems arising from science and engineering. Applications range from slow viscous flows in metallurgical processes, to shallow-water flows in environmental studies, and to high-speed gas flows in aerodynamics. In this paper, we focus on the applications of computational fluid dynamics in metallurgical industry. Two important flow problems arising from industrial processes are presented. Numerical techniques for the solutions of the problems and their applications are also given briefly.
