Ad-hoc network is a cooperative, self organized and infrastructure less network. In comparison to traditional networks wireless ad hoc networks have greater susceptibility to malicious attacks and unpredictable network failure because of their limitations like insufficient battery power, error-prone communication media and changing behaviour of network topology. There are different types of non collaborative nodes i.e. malicious and selfish node whose behavior is dangerous for network performance. There is significant impact of malicious and selfish nodes on ad-hoc network such as dropping of packets, false routing behavior etc. Handling of such types of nodes is a challenge in the area of infrastructure less network. Various methods are defined for detection of these types of nodes. In this paper, we are going to summarize various methods of detection which are proposed by researchers and authors. On the basis of different performance parameter, the detection methods are compared.
