In this article, we studied the mechanical properties of PTT fiber. The subjects investigated are three kinds of fiber, PTT, PET and PET with high contractibility. The experimental methods are as follows: strength and elongation, stretch and recovery one-time under settled extension, repeat stretch and recovery for 10 times under settled extension and stress relaxation. Compared with PET fiber, PTT is provided with outstanding elasticity and favorable softness. Breaking strength of PTT is lower than PET(C) and PET(HC), but the elongation of PTT outperform PET(C), approach to PET(HC) which is processed contractively, and its initial modulus is smaller than that of PET. Through elasticity test, the immediate recovery and total recovery of PTT fiber are all superior to PET fiber. The above results can demonstrate the favorable extensibility and softness of PTT fiber. In addition, the properties of PTT fiber processed in boiling water are studied in this article. Heat treatment has obvious effect on PTT fiber. After heat treatment, the breaking strength and breaking elongation of PTT fibers decrease, and the elastic recovery decrease obviously at small strain and small deformation.
