In this paper, inorganic viscose nano-composite fibre (VNCF) was prepared via adding inorganic flame retardant, such as silicate, into viscose solution which was then regenerated in coagulating bath and post treated with crosslink reagent. The micrographs and distribution of inorganic flame retardant in VNCF was investigated, and the results revealed that the flame retardant was uniformly distributed in the inner part of VNCF in the scale of 5-10 nm. The incorporation of inorganic flame retardant into VNCF decreased the heat release rate (HRR), effective combustion heat (ECH) and degradation rate during combustion in CONE. The combustion residue char of VNCF increased, which was favour for flame retardancy. Inorganic flame retardant acts in condense phase during combustion.
