A meta-analysis is performed on the results of a large scale literature search of the kinetic parameters for two inorganic and four polymers as candidates to serve as a decomposition kinetic reference material. Because of the precision of its kinetic parameters, polytetrafluroethylene is recommended as a decomposition kinetic reference material. The "best estimate" values for polytetrafluorethylene are E= 319 kJ/mol, In [Z, s~(-1)] = 45.1 and n = 1.0. Acceptable ranges for user determined values are ± 21 % for E and ln[Z, s~(-1)] and 2.8 % for n. Alternative, less precise results, are obtained for the other candidates including calcium carbonate, calcium oxalate monohydrate, polyethylene, polypropylene and polystyrene which may serve as secondary decomposition kinetic reference materials.
