International Development of Technology and Markets in Microtechnology and Nanotechnology

The MEMS industry began in the United States, most foundries are currently located here, and the majority of shipments are currently made by U.S. companies. However, other countries around the world have mounted major efforts to develop MEMS and/or nanotechnology, establish the industry locally and help organize companies. The market share of the United States will gradually fall as other regions of the world penetrate the market. We predict a long-term trend in changing market shares by geographic region, similar to what happened in the semiconductor industry as it developed globally.
